Man commits suicide, in-laws booked

AMRITSAR: Harpal Singh, a resident of Gujjapir village in Ajnala, ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance. The police found a suicide note from near his body in which he allegedly held his wife and in-laws responsible for forcing him to take the extreme step of committing suicide.

Harpal Singh, a resident of Gujjapir village in Ajnala, ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance. The police found a suicide note from near his body in which he allegedly held his wife and in-laws responsible for forcing him to take the extreme step of committing suicide.

Following this, the police have registered a case against his wife, Jasbir Kaur, mother-in-law Harpal Kaur, two brothers-in-law, Sukhwinder Singh and Ranjit Singh, and their wives. No arrest has been made so far while Harpal Singh’s body was sent to the Ajnala Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Umrao Singh, the deceased’s father, said Harpal was married to Jasbir Kaur around 10 years ago and they had two children from the marriage. He said for some reason a quarrel erupted between the two and after this, Harpal Kaur took Jasbir and her two children with her. He said whenever Harpal Singh used to go to meet with his two children, his in-laws did not allow him to meet with them. He said around a year ago, Harpal Kaur sent Jasbir to some foreign country against the wishes of her husband. On Diwali when Harpal Singh went to meet with his children, his in-laws did not allow a meeting between them. This perturbed him and he committed suicide by consuming some poisonuous substance.

The incident came to light when the deceased's father, Umrao Singh, went to Harpal Singh's place to serve him tea and breakfast. He found him dead and also found a suicide note there.
