AMRITSAR: In a shocking incident, a man live-streamed his suicide attempt by consuming sulphas tablets here yesterday.

In a shocking incident, a man live-streamed his suicide attempt by consuming sulphas tablets here yesterday. The victim, Vijaypal, a resident of Gaggomahal village in Ajnala, is under treatment at a hospital. He is said to have been harassed by his in-laws.

According to information, when Vijaypal consumed poison live on Facebook, a social networking site, one of his relatives in Hoshiarpur was watching him online. He immediately informed his brother Pappu who rushed to his house. Getting no response from inside, he broke open the door and rushed him to a private hospital where his condition is stated to be serious.

Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural, said he had ordered the Ajnala DSP to probe the incident.

In the video, the man talks about “harassment” being meted out to him by his wife and in-laws. He says that he going to end his life due to his relatives.

Vijaypal runs a canteen at Government Senior Secondary School, Gaggomahal village. After school hours, he used sell eggs to make his both ends meet.

He said he was married to Rekha, a resident of Krishna Nagar, in 2000. The couple has two children. “For the past five years, Rekha has been living with her parents. She works at Pingalwara. I have gone to my in-laws house a number of times to bring her and children back but they always threatened me of lodging a false compliant against me,” Vijaypal said in his live message.

In May 2017, he filed a police complaint but nothing was done, he alleged.
