The Sanjhi Sangharsh Committee, comprising of Bhagtanwala residents who have been up in arms against the government demanding shifting of the garbage dump from their locality, met Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu on Monday.

Though there is no alternative measure in sight to shift the dumpyard, the Mayor assured them that they would get immediate relief.

“The House has passed several projects, such as two new tube wells. A proposal has also been mooted to set up a green belt over the garbage dumping site. The tube wells will be made functional within a week,” he said.

To deal with any untoward incident that may erupt due to frequent fire instances at the dumping yard, a fire tender will be stationed permanently, he added.
