Amritsar, March 2
The Government Medical College (GMC) authorities are trying their best to convince the Medical Council of India (MCI) to get approval for the proposal to increase MBBS seats. A drill was conducted for the college staff to check their preparedness for a sudden MCI inspection.
Officials of the medical college sounded a hoax alarm about the arrival of an MCI team for re-evaluation inspection. “It was done to check preparedness of the staff for inspection,” said an official.
Such a mock-drill to check staff preparedness has never been tried at the institute earlier, an official said adding that it was a fruitful event. The college is expecting a visit by the MCI inspection team after March 15.
However, officials are taking no chances as the team may land earlier to catch the college staff off-guard. The re-evaluation inspection is crucial for the college to get the quota of the MBBS seats increased.
Earlier, the MCI team conducted an inspection at the college in December last year. Later, the team had listed a few shortcomings in its status report. However, the college had recently submitted a certificate stating that shortcomings had been removed and the institute was ready for a re-evaluation inspection.
