Amritsar: Three mobile phones have been found from inmates at the Central Jail. Besides, three mobiles were found abandoned in the garbage. The police have registered cases against two inmates, identified as Sagar of Gawal Mandi, Ram Tirath Road, and Amandeep Singh, alias Chini, of Kot Baba Deep Singh. The jail staff found two mobile phones from the bag of Sagar and another was confiscated from the possession of Amandeep. They have been booked under Sections 42 and 52-A of the Prisoners’ Act. TNS

Purse snatched

A woman’s purse was snatched near the railway station on Saturday. Harjit Singh Batra, a resident of Mumbai, said his mother’s purse contained cash, gold jewellery, mobile phone and some documents. A case under Section 379-B of the IPC has been registered against unidentified youth at the Civil Lines police station here. Recently, bikers snatched a purse from a Malaysia-based NRI, Kuldip Kaur, near Government High School, near Mahna Singh Road. She was returning to Guru Arjun Dev Niwas near Golden Temple. Her purse contained Rs 4,200, $ 400 Malaysian Dollar, two mobile phones, her passport, an ATM and other belongings. The police have registered a case. TNS
