Dalbir Singh Tong, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate from the Baba Bakala constituency is an aam aadmi (common man) in reality. Dalbir (33), a resident of Tong village, is a taxi driver who is campaigning in his own vehicle.

He belongs to a humble family and left the study after passing his Class XII examinations. He has been driving taxi for the past several years to earn his livelihood.

Besides driving taxi, he used to work for the welfare of the Majabi Sikh community under the banner of the All India Rangreta Dal.

He got highly impressed from the polity of AAP and joined the party before the Assembly elections in 2014.

“I served the party on every front and never expected the party ticket. But senior leaders of the party gave me the ticket. While working for the All India Rangreta Dal I had bitter experiences of social injustice with the poor, corruption by government officials and apathy of basic health and education. I wanted to change the system. Now, the time is about to come when we will change the system,” Dalbir said.

"The candidates of both main political parties are influential but we don’t need money for campaign. Money is not required for every fight. Sometimes courage, enthusiasm, determination and ambitions also help in winning," he said.

Dalbir has a joint family. His grandfather, uncles, parents and four brothers are residing in the same boundary walls.

“Everyone in my family is campaigning for me. We have constituted separate teams. My mother and wife have separate teams. Every one leave the house early in the morning to motivate people to cast their vote for AAP,” said the AAP leader.

Speaking about problems of the constituency Dalbir said: “We are fighting against injustice. The incumbent government and MLA from the area had patronised the sand and liquor mafias and drug sellers. He had also implicated residents in false police cases."

Talking about his dream, he said: “If we form the government, we will provide basic education and health facilities to everyone. People are deprived from basic facilities even 70 years after Independence."
