The Health Department has stepped up efforts to encourage the parents to get their children vaccinated under the ongoing measles-rubella (MR) campaign.

The department has decided to distribute pamphlets highlighting the benefits of the immunisation throughout the district.

Civil surgeon Dr Hardeep Singh Ghai said pamphlets will be printed in Punjabi and English. He said that the department has also roped in prominent personalities to motivate the parents. “The campaign has already ended in 15 states. The people need to know that every year around 49,000 kids die just because of measles. Nearly 30,000 children are born with various disabilities due to rubella annually, ” he said. — TNS
