Amritsar, March 8

The Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in the holy city got its second air connectivity to the tinsel town as Vistara Airlines launched its Mumbai-Amritsar-Mumbai flight today.

As many as 158 passengers were on board the Mumbai-Amritsar maiden flight, which arrived today. While another 157 passengers availed the service of the return flight.

Similarly, Vistara’s Delhi-Amritsar-Delhi flight, which was launched on March 1, became regular from today. This is the ninth daily flight between the holy city and the National Capital.

Besides, IndiGo will operate a daily non-stop flight between Amritsar-Delhi-Amritsar and Amritsar-Mumbai-Amritsar from March 16 onwards. It will launch its another Amritsar-Delhi-Amritsar flight from May 1, which will take the total number of flights on the circuit to 11. IndiGo also announced to start Amritsar-Jammu-Amritsar flight from May 1.

A tourism expert Gunbir Singh said, the popularity of Amritsar-Delhi route could be gauged from the fact that already three airlines collectively operate eight flights on the route daily.

The national carrier, Air India and Jet Airways operate three flights each daily, besides SpiceJet is flying two flights daily on the route.

He said, “There is invariably high traffic between Amritsar and Delhi as majority of all traders deal with their peers in Delhi.”

He said, “Demand of passengers to fly on the Amritsar-Delhi sector is good and average fair is coming down with intense competition among airlines after arrival of new players.”

Vistara has pressed into service its UK 957 aircraft with 158-seating capacity, including eight business class, 24 premium economy and rest 126 seats in the economy class.

Meanwhile, airline officials said Amritsar had a strong appetite for domestic and international air travel growth, which was perfect for Vistara’s growing network for leisure and business travellers alike.

They said, “It is also well aligned with our evolving international plans, as millions of NRIs travel to and fro from Amritsar every year.”
