Murder accused held after 8 mths

AMRITSAR: The Ajnala police have arrested a proclaimed offender, identified as Chanchal Singh of Bhuregill village.

The Ajnala police have arrested a proclaimed offender, identified as Chanchal Singh of Bhuregill village. He was wanted in a murder case.

Chanchal was among the nine persons who were booked in connection with the murder of Jagdev Singh of Chamiari village. The murder took place on October 27 last year. Jagdev’s brother Bhagwan Singh, his son Dharampal Singh and nephew Rajdeep had sustained injuries in the murderous assault at that time.

Paramvir Singh, SHO, Ajnala police station, said they had specific input that the accused had come to Chamiari village. A police team was sent to the village where he was arrested.

The Ajnala police had booked nine persons for opening fire and murderous assault. The police have registered a case under Sections 302, 323, 324, 148, 149 of the IPC and 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against the accused.

Among those booked are Paramjit Singh, his father Chanchal Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Luvdeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh, all residents of Bhuregill village, Karan Singh of Urdan village and two unknown persons.

Rajdeep Singh stated to the police that he along with his father Bhagwan Singh, uncle Jagdev Singh and cousin Dharmpal Singh were going to fields at around 6 pm on October 27 last year when the accused, equipped with sharp-edge weapons and a pistol, attacked them. He said his uncle Jagdev Singh sustained serious injury on his throat that led to his death. A quarrel between Dharampal and the accused was the reason behind the murderous attack.
