No action yet in Dalit atrocity case

AMRITSAR: Even as the National SC Commission has taken a notice of the complaint filed by BJP leaders regarding alleged torture of a Dalit, Kashmir Singh, and his family in Bagga village in Majitha by the police at the behest of a Congress leader, the police are yet to take any action.

Even as the National SC Commission has taken a notice of the complaint filed by BJP leaders regarding alleged torture of a Dalit, Kashmir Singh, and his family in Bagga village in Majitha by the police at the behest of a Congress leader, the police are yet to take any action.

The commission has asked the ADGP (Law and Order) and SSP, rural, to present the details of this case, along with action taken report, at the regional headquarters tomorrow.

Majitha DSP Hardev Singh Boparai said investigation was under progress. No action has been taken so far.

The incident had led to a major controversy after former Cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia had stormed into a police public meeting, conducted by ADGP (Law and Order) Rohit Chaudhary in Majitha. He had raised the case and demanded stern action against the accused and the cops who were sheltering them. Earlier, he had held a press conference in this regard. The SAD had announced to launch an agitation from tomorrow.

Kashmir Singh and his family was allegedly attacked thrice on April 17, 29 and May 15. Congress leaders allegedly tied his hands before beating him up and tore not only his, but also his wife’s clothes, the complainant had said.
