Amritsar, February 22
The police today said an old enmity was the reason behind the murder of a youth, indentified as Sandeep Singh (24). The deceased, a resident of Baba Bakala, was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne youths on Tuesday evening.
Amritsar (Rural) SSP Parampal Singh said CCTV footage and police investigations revealed that Sandeep was killed by Gupartap Singh and his accomplice Veer Singh, both residents of Sathiala.
Though one of the accused Veer Singh was arrested, Gurpartap managed to give the police the slip. The police said Veer Singh had confessed to the crime.
The probe revealed that around two years ago, Sandeep had beaten up Gurpartap and he was harbouring a grudge.
However, Sandeep was jailed in the case. He came out on bail around a month ago. On Tuesday evening when Sandeep was returning home, the accused exchanged heated arguments with him. Gurpartap, who was riding pillion, took out a pistol and fired two gunshots at him.
The bullets hit the deceased in the ribs and hips, who succumbed to injuries on his way to the hospital. A case under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 24, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered.
The accused were identified on the basis of a cellphone recovered at the crime scene.
