Panchayat officials attacked

TARN TARAN: A team of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats was attacked in Sangha village here yesterday.

A team of the Department of Rural Development and Panchayats was attacked in Sangha village here yesterday. The officials had gone to the village to resolve a dispute between two families. Four persons have been arrested.

A panchayat official, Sukhbir Singh, who was heading the team, said they had gone to the village as a family was not allowing its neighbour to install a door. The villagers pelted them with stones, he added.

The Sadar police have booked as many as 16 villagers under Sections 307, 323 , 353, 186, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC. Seven of them have been identified as Puran Singh, Kashmir Singh, Karam Singh, Sukhdev Singh (four siblings) besides Manga Singh, Joga Singh, Heera Singh, Ravisher Singh and Mukhtar Singh. The identity of others is yet to be established.

Puran, Kashmir, Karam and Joga have been arrested while others are at large.
