A team of the police intelligence wing has been sent to Uttar Pradesh for the arrest of Rubal, a gangster accused of arranging money for freeing a notorious gangster, Gopi Ghanshaympuria, from the custody of the UP Special Task Force.

Meanwhile, the local court today extended the police remand of six accused arrested in this connection so far. They include Congress leader Sandeep alias Pintoo Tiwari of Sultanpur, Amandeep Singh and Harjinder Singh of Pilibhit, Randeep Singh alias Rimple, a liquor contractor, his associate Gurpreet Singh and a notorious criminal, identified as Baljinder Singh alias Doni, who was lodged in the Amritsar Central Jail.

Rimple along with Rubal had arranged money for the release of Gopi Ghanshampuria. He was arrested by the UP STF from Shahjahanpur earlier this month. However, he was released by STF officials after taking bribe due to the political of Sandeep Tiwari.

Tiwari had unsuccessfully contested the 2012 Assembly polls on the Congress ticket from Sultanpur district in Amethi constituency.

The local police was under tremendous pressure to withdraw from case after name of Sandeep Tiwari and a senior UP cop figured in the case. Rimple, Amandeep and Harjinder had confessed during the police interrogation that the money was given to a senior UP cop.

Ghanshampuria was wanted in Nabha jail break case besides kidnapping of an Ajnala-based doctor. He was also involved in a gang war in Tarn Taran in which a gangster, Dilbagh Lamma Patti was killed and Akul Khatri was injured.

While Rimple along with Gurpreet Singh was arrested on Saturday, Amandeep and Harjinder along with Pintoo were arrested by the Punjab Police intelligence on Sunday. Amandeep is the brother-in-law of Gurpreet Singh, intelligence sources said.

With political leaders from Punjab as well as Uttar Pradesh are lobbying to get him released, it is yet to be seen where the investigation goes in future. It has also been learnt that the entire probe is being conducted by Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, IG, ATS. However, he refused to divulge details of the case.
