The Amritsar postal division will organise a mega camp for opening of the ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana’ accounts’ in all its post offices to mark International Women’s Day on March 8.
Jethmal Jinger, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Amritsar division, said, “Parents can open Sukanya Samridhi accounts in the name of their two girl children having age less than 10 years with an initial deposit of only Rs 1,000. They can get income tax rebate under Section 80 (C) for maximum deposits upto Rs 1,50,000.”
He said the scheme had 9.2 per cent rate of interest, which was the highest out of all savings schemes. It was specifically launched for the higher study and marriage purpose of a girl child, he added. — TNS
