Postmen under the Amritsar division today staged a protest near General Post Office against the Central Government for not listening to their demands regarding better salary. The rural postmen, under the banner of Dak Sewak Union, raised slogans against the Centre for not implementing the findings of the report submitted by the Kamlesh Chandra panel in 2016. “Our condition is worse than a daily wager. We have no facilities though we are a government employee,” said Baljit Singh, divisional president of the Dak Sewak Union.

The protesters said the regular employees of the Central Government were benefited from the seventh pay commission, the government had introduced the Kamlesh Chandra panel for the betterment of the employees of Department of Posts.

There are about 2.70 lakh postmen across the country and about 700 under the Amritsar division.
