Amritsar, January 21

Officials of the Municipal Corporation (MC) are busy making arrangements to accommodate the 85 newly-elected councillors in the meeting hall of the Ranjit Avenue office during the oath-taking ceremony, slated for January 23.

With the increase of councillors in the MC House by 20, officials are upgrading the furniture in the meeting hall.

According to information, the MC will arrange 97 chairs in the hall for the councillors and senior officials to conduct General House meting. New tables, chairs and sound system would be installed before the meeting.

Earlier, the General House meetings were held at Guru Nanak Bhawan as the MC did not have appropriate space here at its Ranjit Avenue building. Now there are two major meeting halls here, thus enough space is there for such meetings. Two rows of round tables and chairs would be arranged in front of the Mayor’s chair.

According to information, the Mayor would be announced during the oath taking ceremony. Earlier, leaders had claimed that the announcement regarding Mayor was expected on Monday.

“Capt Amrinder Singh will decide and announce the Mayor. We will welcome their decision,” said a local Congress leader. As per the information revealed by Congress leaders, Partap Singh Bajwa along with other senior leaders would held a meeting with party activists at the Congress Bhawan to announce the names of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
