Three murder convicts were booked by the police for allegedly misbehaving with a DSP-rank official of the Amritsar central jail when he went to demolish an illegally constructed small furnace on the jail premises here. The incident occurred on Saturday.
Those booked were identified as Harcharn Singh, Ranbir Singh and Sarwan Singh, all residents of Bhagupur village. They had attacked DSP Hemant Sharma who was visiting the blocks and barracks inside the jail.
According to information, the accused had built an earthen furnace inside their cell and were cooking something. When the DSP reached their barrack, he got it demolished. This enraged the suspects who entered into an argument with the DSP and misbehaved with the jail official. Soon, the DSP called more force at the barrack to control the unruly prisoners.
Police sources said the three suspects also had a previous record of such unruly acts. They were shifted from different jails for similar reasons. “They were lodged in Patti jail from where they were shifted to the Ferozepur and the Kapurthala jail in the past three years and they are now lodged here,” said the sources. They were convicted in a murder case in 2013, it is learnt.
A fresh case under Sections 353, 186, 506 and 34, IPC, and Section 52 of the Prisoners Act was registered against them.
