Private, aided schools ‘force’ students to take stopgap admissions

Private and aided schools have allegedly been forcing their students to get provisional admissions before and after the declaration of matriculation results, parents of some students say.

Robin Masih said his daughter passed her matriculation examination from a government-aided school here. He alleged that his daughter was pressurised to take provisional admission in either commerce or the humanities stream. “When she refused, she was threatened that she would get less marks in the practical examination”.

He said his daughter wanted to pursue the non-medical stream, which was not available in the school. He approached the District Education Department to register his complaint against the school, which the officials refused to accept on the plea that aided schools did not fall within its domain.

Similarly, another student said, on condition of anonymity, that she was a resident of Fatehgarh Churiyan Road and her school also forced her to take admission in plus one, which she refused on the ground that she wanted to pursue her further studies in a government college. However, her school teachers were compelling her to pursue her senior secondary in the same school.

Officials at the District Education Office said that after incumbent DEO (S) Amardeep Singh Saini was transferred, the new head was yet to take charge. They added that only government schools fall under their jurisdiction directly.
