Following an unconfirmed tip-off that a BJP candidate from Ward No. 53 has stored liquor and was scanning the voter ID cards, police personnel from the Cantonment and the Sadar police stations raided the house of Menu Sehgal, house in Mahindra Colony here today. The police did not find anything objectionable in the house.

Meanwhile, Deepak Sehgal, the husband of candidate, alleged that Congress councillor Neetu Tangri and her husband, Sanjiv Tangri, pressurised the police to raid their home to harass them.

Sehgal, a BJP leader and the husband of the candidate, alleged that Sanjiv Tangri misused the power of the ruling party and pressurised the police to raid their home. Different police teams visited their house three times from 11:30 to am 12:15 pm.

The police did not have the search warrants to search my house. But I cooperated with the police because I have a clean image and I’m working for the public for decades. The Congress has made it tough for my wife to contest the elections. I have informed the party high command about the incident”, added Sehgal.

Parvesh Sharma, SHO, Cantonment police station, said, “We didn’t raid the candidate’s house. We got information that some persons were distributing material and making fake ID cards. So, we simply visited the spot. It was not a raid”.

The Congress candidate has been defeated by me twice. Now, he again found that his wife was going to defeat. So he tried to implicate us in a false case.

Sanjiv Tangri, the husband of Congress candidate said, “Deepak Sehgal has lost his mental balance. He is doing petty politics by tearing my posters. These allegations are baseless. Even I don’t know that the police has raided his house”.
