Passengers of the city travelling to Bihar, West Bengal and Assam are a harried lot as flood in northern parts of the country has left the rail services disrupted.

Officials at the railway station said Amritsar-Dibrugarh (Assam) and Amritsar-Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) trains that run weekly had been cancelled. Trains from Amritsar to Darbhanga and Saharsa in Bihar are running way behind the schedule. A passenger, Shiv Ram Yadav, said, “My family in Bihar has been affecting by floods. I am trying to return to my native village but the cancellation and delay of trains have been hampering the journey.”

A shawl trader, Harsh Mehra, said floods would mar their trade prospects.

Meanwhile, Amritsar-Kolkata (12318) Akal Takht Express has been diverted via Barddhaman-Bandel-Naihati-Dumdum.
