Rain exposes tall claims of MC to control waterlogging

Heavy rain in the morning hours today brought respite to people from scorching heat in the city.

The rain also exposed the claims of the Municipal Corporation, as waterlogging was visible on all main roads and streets of the city. With the two-hour downpour, all low-lying areas and even some posh areas of the city were flooded. Water accumulation on roads threw life out of gear for some hours.

Office-goers were the major sufferers, as the roads were blocked due to rain water. The rain caught a number of commuters unawares and their vehicles broke down on flooded roads. The heavy rain exposed the tall claims of the local civic body officials, who had been claiming that after desilting, the sewerage and the drainage system will tackle the rain water.

Areas like Kot Khalsa, Islamabad, Indra Colony, Rani Ka Bagh, Mall Road, Putaligarh, Ram Bagh and some parts of the walled city were badly affected, as the streets were flooded with rain water. MC workers were on their toes and were draining water by opening manholes and clearing garbage.

In spite of the storm water sewerage laid along with the BRTS route, there was water accumulation on Mall Road.

The day remained cloudy and the city witnessed light showers in the evening. According to weathermen, there is a possibility of rain in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the residents were seen enjoying the pleasant weather conditions in the afternoon.

Ranvir Singh, a resident, said water accumulation was an everyday story during the rains and various complaints to the authorities concerned had not yielded any result. Besides, the sewerage lines laid by the MC were faulty.

Dalbir Gill, a resident of Putaligarh, said most of the roads in our area were flooded. The residents faced inconvenience while commuting.
