The Municipal Corporation has ended the extended rebate for tax payers, who were to pay their property tax dues in advance for the end of the financial year in March 31, 2017. The collection system has been made organised through the re-launched online portal through which people can pay their dues. The MC was offering up to 10 per cent rebate to the early payers.
As the civic body has always been lagging behind in reaching their targets through tax collection, this time a consistent watch is being kept on defaulters and they are being notified regularly. “Since, we are still in the process to collect the tax amounts, we hope that the targets are reached this year,” said MC Commisioner Sonali Giri.
To encourage tax payers to clear their dues, the MC had also given added features to the online portal that allows them to pay the tax through respective banks, through debit or credit cards. The civic body has kept a target of Rs 50 crore approx for property tax collection this year and has also implemented a survey to get the list of defaulters. The MC had set a target of recovering Rs 12 crore from defaulters.
