A man died while another was injured in a road mishap near the Circuit House area after a speeding truck collided with a scooter.
The deceased was identified as Vijay Mahajan. He was going to his shop at Ghee Mandi when the incident took place. After hitting him, the truck rammed into a pole, which fell down and injured another commuter, identified as Harjinder Singh of Patti (Tarn Taran).
Mayank Mahajan, son of the deceased, stated that his father was going on a scooter while he along with his uncle was following him on his motorcycle. He said when they reached near the Circuit House, the speeding truck collided with his father’s scooter and crushed his legs. It then rammed into a roadside pole, injuring Harjinder. The driver fled from the spot, leaving the truck behind.
The victims were rushed to a private hospital where his father, Vijay Mahajan, died while Harjinder was under treatment, said Mayank. The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 337, 338, 427 and 279 of the Indian Penal Code against the driver in this regard. He was later identified as Mahinder Pal of Vallah.
Meanwhile, another incident was reported near the Khanna paper mill last evening in which Jagroop Singh was injured while his family members escaped.
Jagroop, in this statement to the police, said he along with his family members had come to meet their relatives in Amritsar. They were returning home and had reached near the Khanna paper mill when a speeding Scorpio came from the opposite side, jumped, broke the divider and collided with their car. He sustained an injury while his car got damaged. The accused fled from the scene, leaving behind his car. He was later identified as Kirpal Singh of Pandori Waraich at Majitha Road.
