According to information, the robber wanted to rape her nine-year-old granddaughter but the woman offered herself to save the girl. However, the police said the girl was playing outside and she entered the house after the accused had raped the woman. Before escaping, he took away Rs 9,000.

After the incident, senior police officials reached the spot for investigation. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia said a manhunt was launched to identify and arrest the culprit.

The victim had come to the city to meet her son, his family members and an ailing grandson. She along with her grandchildren was alone at home when the accused barged into the house with a weapon. It is said that the accused, unable to find anything valuable in the house, got infuriated and tried to rape the victim’s granddaughter but the elderly, in order to save the girl, offered herself to the accused, who made the children sit facing a wall, and raped the woman.

After committing the horrendous crime, the robber took out his sharp weapon and threatened the minor girl to reveal if anything valuable was there in the house. Intimidated, she told him that there was some cash kept in a box. The accused frisked the box and took Rs 9,000 before fleeing.

The ADCP said the police were trying to ascertain if the robber attempted rape on the minor. “The unknown robber searched the house to find valuables. When he failed to do so, he raped the woman,” he said.

Parvesh Chopra, SHO, Division B police station, said, “The robber gained entry to the house when the grandson walked in. He raped the elderly woman. After that, the victim’s granddaughter came and she was threatened by the accused, following which she told him about the cash kept in the house.”
