Rumour of gangsters’ encounter amid Gurdeep’s bhog ceremony

AMRITSAR: Even as hundreds of persons, including Congress leaders, paid homage to the slain Congress councillor Gurdeep Singh Pehalwan at his bhog ceremony, rumours of encounter of gangsters, suspected to be behind his murder, did the rounds on social media on Monday.

Even as hundreds of persons, including Congress leaders, paid homage to the slain Congress councillor Gurdeep Singh Pehalwan at his bhog ceremony, rumours of encounter of gangsters, suspected to be behind his murder, did the rounds on social media on Monday.

The city police had to issue a clarification regarding this, refuting about any such encounter. The police said raids were on to arrest the suspects.

Pictures of notorious gangsters Karan Masti, Arun Chhurimar, Angrej and Amanpreet Rinka along with Shubham Singh went viral on WhatsApp. The pictures also included of bullet ridden SUV with dead bodies of gangsters.

DCP (Investigations) Jagmohan Singh clarified that the encounter pictures were of the incident that took place in Delhi in which notorious gangster Rakesh Bharti and his accomplices were shot dead. He said investigation was under way to know who had circulated such pictures to spread misinformation.

The police had booked eight gangsters for the murder of Gurdeep Pehalwan. The accused include Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Sonu Kangla, who have been taken on production warrant for interrogation.

The police are tight-lipped over their interrogation. The DCP said manhunt had been launched to arrest the suspects as teams were despatched to different parts of the country to nab them.

The bhog ceremony was held at Santokhsar Gurdwara. Cabinet Minister OP Soni, senior Congress leader Darbari Lal and district Congress president Jugal Kishore Sharma were also present.

It may be recalled that Congress councillor Gurdeep SinghPehalwan was shot dead by three masked men at the Gol Bagh Akhara where he had been taking a bath after exercise a few days ago. The incident had sent shock waves throughout the state.

Ex-councillor of SAD gets death threat

Amritsar: A day after a Facebook video of former SAD councillor Vicky Kanda surfaced in which he challenged notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and his accomplices, another FB post, uploaded from the account of Sangam Malhotra, has raised the headache of the local police as it threatens to kill Kanda just like Gurdeep Pehalwan. 

The former councillor in his video had threatened to kill Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and his accomplices, who had issued threats to shoot him down.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police JS Walia said the matter would be investigated to know who had uploaded the post. Appropriate action will be taken, he added. The police said efforts were on to nab gangsters. TNS
