Former MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha, who is the spokesperson for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), today accused Congress leaders in the Valtoha constituency in Tarn Taran of getting false cases registered against SAD workers.

In a press conference here today, he said the president of Bhikhiwind Nagar Panchayat, Amarjit Singh Dhillon, and a councillor, Rakesh Kumar Rinku, had been booked by the police “on the instructions of local Congress leaders”.

“The FIRs are a part of the political plan to grab the control of the Bhikhiwind Nagar Panchayat. The police in the complaint have mentioned that the two elected members of the panchayat got a khokha (a small shop in a temporary structure) of a Congress worker, Sarabjit Singh, removed and when he went to enquire about it, the duo used derogatory remarks against his caste,” he said.

According to Valtoha, Amarjit Singh Dhillon was in Delhi when the incident is reported to have occurred. “We have the evidence to prove his presence in Delhi at that time. When he was in Delhi, how could he be involved in a case 500 km away,” he questioned.

“Moreover, the illegal construction was removed by Nagar Panchayat in June 2015 but the police complaint mentions that it was occurred on June 22, 2017. Though both have got anticipatory bail from the High Court, they are not been involved in the investigation by the police. They are being threatened to resign from their positions,” he added.
