The Sadar police have recovered around 26 batteries which were stolen from a mobile tower earlier this month.

As many as 56 batteries were stolen by a gang of thieves and robbers on the intervening night of March 2-3 from a mobile tower opposite the Fortis hospital near the Verka bypass road.

The seizure was made after six members of the gang were brought on a production warrant from the Amritsar central jail for interrogation. They were arrested on March 27 in connection with a burglary incident that occurred in Sultanwind village. The gang was involved in looting iron sheets and iron girders from a construction site in various parts of the city.

Those arrested include Surjit Singh of Peeran Wali Gali, Mohan Singh of Anngarh, Sonu of Shere Punjab avenue on Majitha Road, Lucky Masih of Indira Colony, Sukhwinder Singh and Major Singh of Samrai village in Dera Baba Nanak (Gurdaspur).

Police authorities said their interrogation revealed that they had sold the batteries to a junk dealer identified as Harsh Kumar of Sharma Colony on Tarn Taran Road. The police have also nominated and arrested him in the case.
