Police Commissioner SS Srivastava has also appealed to the public for their cooperation in maintaining law and order in the city during the festival.

As per information, around 2,000 police personnel, including 350 from the Punjab Armed Police, have been deployed. Patrolling has also been increased in various parts of the city while traffic cops were deputed at various chowks to streamline traffic.

A large number of devotees have arrived in the holy city to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple on the occasion. The Police Commissioner said to ensure security, barricading had been done inside and outside the walled city.

He said PCR teams were performing their duties in crowded areas. Cops in civil uniform have also been deployed.

Only two-wheelers are allowed to use the route,” the Police Commissioner added. Similarly, the Ghee Mandi chowk will be closed for four-wheelers and it remain opened for two-wheelers only.

For devotees, a temporary parking lot for two-wheelers has been established in the City park and Patian Wala bazaar area. Four-wheelers can enter from the Sherawala gate side.

The Police Commissioner also appealed to the people to abide by the Punjab and Haryana High Court orders, which say the bursting of firecrackers are allowed from 6.30 pm to 9.30pm.
