Seminar discusses state of Sikh politics

AMRITSAR: A seminar on ‘Sikh Panth, Deraism and Politics’ was organised by the Panthic Talmel Sangathan at Sant Singh Sukha Singh School here today to discuss concerns arising out of the present state of Sikh politics and society.

A seminar on ‘Sikh Panth, Deraism and Politics’ was organised by the Panthic Talmel Sangathan at Sant Singh Sukha Singh School here today to discuss concerns arising out of the present state of Sikh politics and society.

Setting the tone for discussion, Giani Kewal Singh, former Takht jathedar, said Sikhism is going through a crucial phase. He said Sri Akal Takhat is in the grip of petty politics and every Sikh feels concerned about it.

The Sikh scholars passed three resolutions which included no permanent provision for Panj Pyaras and their selection from among the Sangat present on the occasion. The second resolution concerned the control of Sikh institutes as per the Sikh edicts only by the Sikhs. The third resolution related to restricting the influence of Deras and connecting people with the Sikh ideology.

Prominent among those who participated in the seminar included Jagdish Singh, Jaswinder Singh Advocate, Gurcharan Singh Basiala, Gurnek Singh, Harjit Singh Chaunta, Major Singh and others.
