Amritsar, September 22

Four months after a farmer, Jatinder Singh, allegedly committed suicide after killing his brother Kabal Singh in Balbir village, the Amritsar rural police today booked seven persons for his “murder”.

The case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC was registered on the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) where deceased’s wife Amarjit Kaur had filed a writ petition.

According to the police, Jatinder Singh and his son Jagjit Singh alias Jagga had been booked for allegedly killing his brother Kabal Singh (40) on May 19. A property dispute was stated to be the reason behind the murder. Both fled from their house after the incident.

Two days after the murder, Jatinder Singh (45) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in his fields in the village.  The incident came to light after villagers found him hanging next morning.

The police had initiated action under criminal procedure code. Amarjit Kaur petitioned that on May 20 her husband had returned home. “Immediately after this, Kabal Singh’s relatives and family members took Jatinder Singh away and killed him. Later, they hanged him to make the case look like a suicide,” she had stated before the court.

Now, the police have booked Jaswinder Singh, his brother Nishan Singh, Amritpal Singh and Akashdeep Singh, son of Kabal Singh, all resident of Mankiana Bal Kalan village besides three others.

Balkar Singh SHO, Kamboh police station, said the case was registered on the HC orders. The police are yet to receive the postmortem examination report of the deceased, Jatinder Singh.
