Amritsar, April 25

To offer free medical aid to needy in remote border areas, the SGPC flagged off two specially equipped mobile medical vans on Wednesday. The SGPC had set aside a total of Rs 1.15 crore for this facility in its annual budget 2018-19.

SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said the decision was finalised by the executive body which was implemented on Wednesday. The medical vans will have qualified doctors, staff nurses, assistants, equipment, medicines etc. These vans will visit at least five villages everyday to exclusively cater to the economically poor patients irrespective of any caste or religious discrimination. He said, “At the moment, only two vans have been put into use but more such vehicles will be added as per the need. Each van would have a doctor supported by a pharmacist and other supporting staff."

Longowal also assured that serious patients, who need advanced medical aid, can be considered for free treatment at Sri Guru Ram Dass Medical College.

Meanwhile, those associated with this service were honoured with sirpoas (robe of honour).
