SIT probe into drug racket case doubtful, unfair: AAP candidate

AMRITSAR: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today raised serious objections over an attempt by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police to absolve Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia from the Rs 6,000 crore drug racket and blamed Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for influencing and disrupting the investigation in the case.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today raised serious objections over an attempt by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police to absolve Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia from the Rs 6,000 crore drug racket and blamed Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for influencing and disrupting the investigation in the case.

AAP candidate from Majitha constituency Himmat Singh Shergill said the SIT report submitted in Fatehgarh Sahib court on January 10 had omitted the names of three Canada-based drug smugglers Satpreet Singh Satta, Parminder Singh Pinda and Amarinder Ladi involved in the international drug racket of which Bikram Majithia was the kingpin. “On the basis of the SIT reports, Jagdish Bhola was also acquitted by the court in two cases and will also get a clean chit in the third case,” he alleged.

Shergill said PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh had scuttled the move for a CBI probe into the drug racket to save Bikram Majithia. He said that Captain Amarinder had gone against the party line and approached AICC president Sonia Gandhi to avert the arrest of Majithia by the Enforcement Directorate. Later, the Narendra Modi government transferred ED investigation officer Niranjan Singh, he alleged.

Shergill alleged that Canada-based NRI Anup Singh Kahlon was arrested by the Fatehgarh Sahib Police headed by SSP Hardayal Singh on March 13, 2013 with synthetic drugs. On Kahlon’s confession, names of Jagdish Bhola had came to light and he had named Bikramjit Singh Majithia as the king pin of the drug racket. The name of Majithia was also endorsed by two co-accused Manjinder Singh alias Bittu Aulakh and Jagjit Singh Chahal, owners of a pharma company who were later arrested by the police, alleged Shergill.

Shergill has now appealed to the Punjab and Haryana High Court to take over the responsibility of probing the drug racket case and appointed a sitting judge of the High Court to expose the international drug racket. He alleged that the Punjab Police and the CBI were working under the influence of the ruling parties in Punjab and at the centre.
