Snatchers continue to have a field day in city

AMRITSAR: Even as the police have been on an alert in view of the Independence Day celebrations, the city has witnessed four snatching incidents in the past 24 hours.

Even as the police have been on an alert in view of the Independence Day celebrations, the city has witnessed four snatching incidents in the past 24 hours.

Two tourists were robbed by unidentified persons in two separated incidents near the Golden Temple area, falling under the Kotwali police station here.

Bijoaya Sasmal stated to the police that around 9.45 pm on Saturday, when she was going to a hotel, two motorcycle-borne youths came from behind and snatched her purse containing Rs 6,000 cash, plastic money and other valuables.

Similarly, Deepika Wadhwa told the police that on the same evening, at around 10.35 pm, she was going to Kesar Da Dhaba when two motorcycle-borne persons snatched her purse near the Cheel Mandi area. Her purse contained Rs 7,000 cash, an I-phone, plastic money and other important documents.

Another tourist couple was looted by unknown persons when they were going to Golden Temple.

Raminder Singh told the police that he along with his wife was going to the shrine and had reached near Sant Shoe company when two scooter-borne persons snatched his wife’s purse containing Rs 25,000 cash and two expensive mobile phones.

Another incident was reported in the Sadar police station area when two unknown youths snatched an expensive mobile phone from a child who was playing a game on it outside his home. The phone belonged to his mother.

The city police have registered separate cases under Section 379-B, IPC, in this connection.
