City girl selected for Indonesia contest

Amritsar:  Shivpreet Pannu, a student of Spring Dale Senior School, has been selected in the Asian Games Sport Climbing Competition to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in August this year.  While the Indian contingent includes players from several states, Pannu is the only player from Punjab to be selected for this competition.  Rajiv Kumar Sharma, principal, Spring Dale Senior School, said the selection was made during the Asian Games selection camp organised by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. “Shivpreet Pannu was selected on the basis of her outstanding performance in the camp,” he said. 4,285 villages sans cemetery

The National Christian League has claimed that there are 4,285 villages in the state without proper burial grounds. In a press release on Friday, the league leaders claimed that 1,084 villages had burial grounds. They said that out of 12,889 villages in the state, 5,369 villages had Christian population. According to them, not-availability of proper burial grounds is a disrespect to the deceased. It was stated that even after sending numerous representations to the state, the government hadn’t chalked out any policy on them. TNS

Four held with heroin

Tarn Taran: Four persons have been arrested for possessing heroin. A police team, led by ASI Harsa Singh, arrested Kulwant Singh of Khairdeenke village and siezed 85 gm of heroin. The Sadar police caught Dausandha Singh with 50 gm of heroin. Paramjit Singh Pamma of Varpal Kalan village and Harpal Singh of Kotli Wasava Singh were caught with 25 gm and 10 gm of heroin. The accused have been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.

Girl missing with valuables

Tarn Taran: A schoolgirl of Chohla Sahib has been missing for over a week. She is said to have taken away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh from her house. The girl's family have accused five persons of another family of luring her away. They said they were sleeping when the girl ran away along with the valuables. The police have registered a case against Gurpreet Singh, his brother Surinderpal Singh, Surinderpal’s wife Manpreet Kaur, his sister Devinder Kaur and Gurjinder Singh, a kin, under Sections 363, 366, 380 and 120-B of the IPC.

Jewellery, cash stolen

Tarn Taran: Cash and valuables, including gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh, were stolen from a house at the Bath road. Victim Kulwinder Kaur said she had gone to a market nearby for two hours on Wednesday when the theft took place. The police have registered a case under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC.
