Social media kept poll buzz alive

AMRITSAR: As officials were busy counting votes in Punjab on Saturday, social media debaters and pollsters kept the poll heat on with live debates and opinions throughout the day.

Amritsar, March 11

As officials were busy counting votes in Punjab on Saturday, social media debaters and pollsters kept the poll heat on with live debates and opinions throughout the day.

Media platforms became an open ground for anxious voters, who expressed shock, disappointment and an array of emotions as the three political parties battled out in Punjab, with the Congress emerging as a clear winner.

Post exit polls, most people expressed their disappointment in media debates over AAP’s poor show. While some posts found humour as the best way to highlight the obvious with messages like Punjab mein Badal saaf ho gye, the sun shines bright now. Others like local online communities managed by city-based NGO’s opened a live prediction chart, with the people posting their views on wins and losses.

“The result was quite interesting as no one predicted a victory for the Congress. Our volunteers were deployed outside counting centres for live updates. They even posted videos of celebrations post results,” shared Pulkit Arora, a member of a social media community. — TNS
