Amritsar, February 21

Members of the SSA/RMSA Office Employees Union burnt an effigy of the government and held a protest to highlight the state government’s failure to regularise them at the Court Chowk today.

Leaders of the Union said the announcement of recruiting 1.13 lakh employees by the SAD-BJP government was mere eyewash and a ploy to earn sympathy before the Assembly election.

Teachers recruited under the SSA and RSSA have been working for the past 11 years and more. They said that they had not received salary for the past many months.

Leaders said they had been agitating for their demands for a long time, but the state government failed to pay any heed to their request, forcing them to resume their agitation.

Elaborating their demands, union leaders said apart from regularisation of their jobs, teachers and other staff members were demanding regular release of their salaries and allowances, besides unconditional cancellation of cases, which were registered against the SSA and RMSA teachers from several districts following protests by unions last year.
