Officials of the Special Task Force (STF), Border Range, Amritsar, on Tuesday claimed to have busted a drug racket being run from the Central Jail with the arrest of two persons.
The STF also recovered 515 gm of heroin and “cut” powder, a synthetic drug, from the accused.
The accused have been identified as Nishant Kumar, a resident of Indira Colony, Majitha Road; and Jeewan Singh, alias Jeena, a resident of the Chabbal Road area.
Rachhpal Singh, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), said a team of the STF led by Inspector Arun Sharma got a tip-off that drug peddler Aaric, alias Kanni, lodged in the Central Jail, was operating the drug trade from inside the jail.
“Aaric has many phones in the jail. He makes calls to drug suppliers, sub-peddlers and receivers. His aides outside the jail follow instructions and deliver the drug to the addicts. After getting a tip-off, the STF arrested Nishant and Jeevan from the Chabbal Road area,” said the AIG.
STF officials said Nishant used to visit Delhi by Jeevan’s taxi. They got heroin and “Cut” powder from Delhi, they added.
The officials said Sunny, brother of Aaric, and Manny further supplied it to addicts in Chheharta, Verka, Ajanala Road area, Bhagtanwala and Chabbal Road area.
“We have recovered 515 gm of heroin and “cut” powder from the accused. We have launched a hunt to arrest Sunny and Manny. The accused may reveal the names of other peddlers, suppliers and receivers during further investigation,” said AIG Rachhpal.
A case under Sections 21, 22, 25, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the D Division police station.
