In his sixties, Dr Navpreet Singh Hanspal, nowadays, is trying his hands at saxophone to express his love for music. Dr Hanspal, a professional surgeon, dives into the world of music daily from 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm. He has been following it for the past couple of years.

Dr Singh, who has been learning music from an early age, terms music as a inalienable part of his lifestyle. Even on hectic days, he makes sure to give time to music. He says, “There have been days when I worked for as long as 16 hours, but I always found time for my instruments. I have my own music room. My day is incomplete without playing music.”

Dr Hanspal, who runs a hospital, can play harmonium, guitar, harmonica, tabla among others. “I make sure to dedicate at least an hour daily to music. It helps me relaxe. Music not only takes me to another world, but also acts as a great healer,” he adds. A general surgeon has also been actively performing at various musical events in the city.

Dr Navpreet belongs to the family of freedom fighters. His grandfather Sudagar Singh ‘Bhikhari’, a famous poet of Kolkata, and father Partap Singh had actively participated in the freedom struggle.

When asked about his ability to manage his medical career and being wholeheartedly dedicated to music, he says, “My brother used to tell me that even the busiest man can take out time for everything. I have just followed that.”
