In yet another salvo against outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Dr AS Brar, the GNDU Teachers Association today alleged that the Khalsa College Charitable Society gave undue financial benefits to Dr Sarvjit Kaur Brar, who was the principal of Khalsa College Public School.

She had joined the school just a few months after the appointment of Dr Brar as GNDU VC in July 2009.

The association presented a comparison between salaries of principals of five other schools run by the Khalsa College Charitable Society to make their point.

“The information extracted from the budget estimates of the Khalsa College Charitable Society reveals that Dr Sarvjit Kaur Brar was paid Rs 40,000 per month salary in 2009-2010, which was doubled in 2012-13. There was an unprecedented increase in her salary till her retirement in March, 2017,” said NPS Saini, president of the association.

He alleged that the salary of principals of other four schools varied from Rs 10,000 to Rs 31,500.

The salary of Mrs Brar had been even higher than the salary of the principal of the historic Khalsa College, he added.

The association alleged Mrs Brar also got Rs 10,000 per month as medical allowance.

Dr Brar, as chairman of the Progressive Educational Society (PES) in its executive meeting on August 20, 2010, approved to pay Rs 25,000 per month to Dr Sarvjit for monitoring PES.

“As the Punjab Government funds were involved in running the PES, a thorough investigation by the government is necessary,” said Saini while demanding a vigilance probe into the matter.

Rajinder Mohan Chhina, honorary secretary, Khalsa College Governing Council, on the other hand, said that it was the sole prerogative of the governing council and no undue advantage was given to Dr Sarvjit.

“We have paid her according to her experience and qualification and under the stipulated norms,” said Chhina.
