Thieves broke open the locks of three rooms at the Physiology Department of Government Medical College and took away an LCD monitor from a lab last night. They also broke open the lock of a store room and chemical lab. The authorities are yet to assess the exact loss. They said the records of the storeroom will be matched with the goods to ascertain the loss.

An employee said, “They took away an LCD monitor. Many goods can be missing as there is a huge stock of goods at the storeroom. The theft appears to be the work of an insider who knew everything.”

The college authorities have filed a police complaint. The authorities stated that they are also quizzing the night guards in the area of the campus to get clues.

The theft has occurred in the academics area where usually no one is present during night hours. College Principal Dr Tejbir Singh said a police complaint had been filed.

“Clerks of the department have also been asked to submit the report about the missing goods. We have also instructed the security staff to increase vigil in the area during night,” he said.

Earlier last year, two thieves had stolen Buprenorphine tablets worth Rs 11 lakh from the OST centre on the college premises. The police had managed to arrest the duo after a few days and had recovered a part of the medicines.
