Transplant paddy at monsoon onset: Agri Dept

AMRITSAR: To control the depleting water table in the state, the Agriculture Department has urged the farmers to strictly follow the government’s instructions regarding transplantation of paddy after June 20.

Amritsar, June 17

To control the depleting water table in the state, the Agriculture Department has urged the farmers to strictly follow the government’s instructions regarding transplantation of paddy after June 20. Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Dalbir Singh Chinna said the PAU’s early maturing paddy varieties must be sown and the sowing time can be aligned with the onset of monsoon to save groundwater.

“These varieties mature in about 93 to 110 days after transplanting and are immune to humidity at the time of marketing, therefore, these are being adopted by the farmers,” said Dr Chinna. — TNS
