Four frail but determined girls are the happiest members of the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society’s big family on Manawala campus. The reason behind their happiness is the merit they achieved in the PSEB Class X results. Students of Bhagat Puran Singh Adarsh Senior Secondary School, they have achieved the success despite their limited opportunities.

Tejinder Kaur, a student of Class XII now, daughter of a daily wage labourer, secured 18th position in the state. She said it was her study schedule of six to seven hours that helped achieve the success in the board examination. “I am very happy and grateful to my mentors at Pingalwara, who inspired me to carry on when I needed support. My parents, of course, are on cloud nine and I am happy to have made them proud,” she said. She aspires to pursue mechanical engineering. “I am my own competitor,” she adds.

Matching her confidence and happiness, Prabhjeet Kaur, who got 22nd position in the state, said her result was not just her own doing but the hard work of her teachers and mentors. “I want to become a pilot,” says the daughter of a maid and a factory worker. Radhika and Dolly, sharing 23rd positions, too are on cloud nine. Radhika wants to become an IAS officer and Dolly is firm to crack the IPS exam after graduation.

Gurdev Singh, principal, Bhagat Puran Singh Adarsh Senior Secondary School, said the girls’ success proved that given opportunity, they could achieve anything. “With a little support and encouragement, every child here builds his or her own future.” Pingalwara had been supporting these girls’ education.

The students as well as the staff of Bhagat Puran Singh Adarsh Senior Secondary School are in a jubilant mood over the feat.

Education consultant Gurnaib Singh announced the results and congratulated the girls on their grand success.
