Two killed in road accidents

AMRITSAR: A rickshaw puller died and two others, including a woman, were injured when an SUV hit the rickshaw carrying furniture near Manawala here on Saturday.

A rickshaw puller died and two others, including a woman, were injured when an SUV hit the rickshaw carrying furniture near Manawala here on Saturday. The driver of the SUV, identified as Gopi of Khilchian village, fled leaving the vehicle on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Udham Singh of Sultanwind village. Bau Ram of Sultanwind, who was accompanying the deceased, and a passer-by Jasbir Kaur were injured in the incident. They were rushed to the hospital. Udham Singh died on the spot.

According to information, they were taking the furniture to Jandiala Guru from Amritsar while the SUV was coming from the Amritsar side.

The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC against Gopi who is yet to be arrested.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Rakesh Kumar, a storekeeper with Krishan Auto Agency, was hit by a three-wheeler near Khalsa College here on Sunday. Sapna, wife of the deceased, said he was returning home after his duty when the incident took place. She received a call from his phone that an unknown auto-rickshaw had hit him near Khalsa College. He was taken to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Islamabad police have registered a case.
