Two women allege molestation

AMRITSAR: A woman of Vaniyeke village has accused some persons of molesting her.

A woman of Vaniyeke village has accused some persons of molesting her. Though the incident occurred on Tuesday morning, the Lopoke police registered the case yesterday.

Two women are among those booked. A person, identified as Raja Singh, a serving Army man, has been arrested. Besides Raja, the police have booked Sonu Masih, Lucky and his wife Kanwal, Bittu and his wife Kinder, all residents of the same village. Sections 354, 506, 323, 341, 148 and 149 of the IPC have been slapped, the police said.

The victim told police that she ran a grocery shop in the village. “On Tuesday, when I opened my shop at around 7 am, the accused barged in. Before I could understand anything, they tore my clothes and used abusive language. Nobody came forward to save me,” she said, adding later her relatives rescued her.

Harsandeep Singh, SHO, Lopoke police station, said the case was registered on the statement of the victim and a woman officer had been deputed for investigation. He said some old dispute was stated to be the reason behind the incident. He said Raja Singh had been arrested while further investigations were under way.

In another incident, the Gate Hakima police yesterday booked Manga of Fatahpur village for allegedly molesting a girl. The victim said she was alone at home when the accused entered her house and tried to sexually harass her. When she raised the alarm, the accused fled the scene. A case under Sections 354 and 451 of the IPC has been registered. The accused is at large.
