Two youths held with firearms, cartridges

AMRITSAR: The rural police have arrested two youth for allegedly possessing illegal weapons.

The rural police have arrested two youth for allegedly possessing illegal weapons. Those arrested were identified as Harchand Singh, alias Chand, of Talle village and Malkeet Singh of Sodia Muhamad village. A case under Arms Act has been registered. The police took them on one-day remand for interrogation.

Kashmir Singh, investigating officer, said acting on a tip-off, they intercepted a motorcycle near Kamaske village. There was no registration number plate on the bike. During search, the police found two country-made pistols from their possession. He said Chand was having a country made pistol of .32 bore with a live cartridge while Malkeet Singh who was riding pillion had a .32 bore pistol with two live cartridges.

He said both were previously booked in an attempt to murder case and also an NDPS case. They were out on bail. He said a fresh case under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against them. They are being probed to ascertain where did they procured the firearms from.
