UK honour for museum patron

Kishwar Desai, chairperson of The India Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust, was given Media, Arts and Culture Award at the annual UK-India Awards 2018 in London on Friday. She has been honoured for her work in establishing the Partition Museum.

Kishwar is chairperson of the Partition Museum. The decision was made by an eminent jury from India and the UK.

The Partition Museum won the award in recognition of its path-breaking work as the world’s first and only museum and memorial to the Partition. The annual UK-India Awards 2018 are aimed to celebrate innovative and path-breaking individuals and organisations that are making a significant impact on the global partnership between the UK and India. She was also listed amongst the top 100 influential people in India and UK.

Desai, in a press statement, thanked the Partition Museum team and supporters.  “Many thanks to all who have brought us so far and helped us preserve the memories and history of all those who lost so much during the Partition. We are very grateful to everyone who has supported this effort, especially the Punjab government. We will continue to work in different areas for preserving the history and culture of India, especially Punjab,” she added.

Desai has been actively working on contemporary Indo-British history for years.
