Dr Ramesh Dave, US-based cardiologist, held a press conference, here today, to promote the latest technique of OCT (optical coherence tomography), which helps in planning of interventional strategies and optimisation before and after stent deployment, particularly with complex diseases.

In his address, he said the new technique was the most cost-effective procedure available so far, and it could help patients with heart problems from poor economic strata.

The formal inauguration of the new treatment procedure in this region was made at Fortis hospital here today. Dr Arun Chopra, Dr Deepak Kapila and Dr HP Singh from the facility were also present on the occasion.

“OCT is an imaging procedure that provides significant benefits in the assessment of coronary artery disease and stent implantation and follow-up. It is used to validate stent placement, vessel injury and proper deployment of stent. OCT provides useful, real-time information beyond that obtained by angiography alone, and impacts directly on physician decision-making,” said Dr Dave.

He said interventional technologies in heart management had brought revolutionary changes in the way diseases were diagnosed and treated.
