Amritsar, June 17

Acting on the directions of MC Commissioner Sonali Giri, a team, led by Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia, removed the vendors on the Mall road here on Saturday.

Despite the declaration of the Mall road as no vending zone, the vendors had once again encroached upon the road footpaths in the last one week.

The vendors, mainly coconut sellers, prefer to install vends on the Mall road as it is abuzz with commuters round the clock. Visitors to the Company Bagh buy coconut water from these vendors. Though the MC has removed them several times, they return after a few days. The road also witnesses earthen pot sellers.

“We have removed the encroachers and warned the vendors of strict action,” said Bhatia. He said encroachers on footpaths and roads would not be tolerated as they hindered the movement of traffic.

Meanwhile, a team of the estate wing removed encroachments from the Race Course road and Company Bagh. The MC is also developing the vending zones in various areas to shift the vendors.
