Amritsar, May 26

Residents of Chartwali village of Ajnala caught hold of a depot holder who was reportedly going to sell wheat grain, received for distribution among economically weaker sections under the Atta-Dal scheme, on May 17. The villagers alleged that though they had handed over the grain to the police, they had not registered any case till date.

Meanwhile, police officials claimed that they had been investigating the matter after seizing the wheat.

Falwinder Singh, member, panchayat, said, “The depot holder, Anil Kumar, has been running the depot in the village. He never distributed the wheat under the Atta-Dal scheme among the beneficiaries. On May 17, he was going to sell the wheat. The residents of the village intercepted his tractor-trailer on the outskirts of the village. He escaped from there by leaving behind the tractor-trailer. On being informed, the police came and seized the wheat”. Gajan Masih, a beneficiary of the scheme, said, “Anil Kumar is associated with the Akali Dal and he did not distribute the wheat and pluses during the SAD regime. He used to sell the grain in the market. We caught him red-handed”.

Ravinderpal Singh Dhillon, DSP, said,“I have received the complaint and marked it to the SHO. We will take appropriate action in the case after an investigation”.

Meanwhile, depot holder Anil Kumar, who is also a priest in a temple, said, “I don’t have any depot and I am not aware about the issue.”
