Villagers apprised of free legal aid services

AMRITSAR: The District Legal Services Authority organised seminars at Dharampura and Bhullar villages in Majitha block here today to create awareness about free legal-aid services.

The District Legal Services Authority organised seminars at Dharampura and Bhullar villages in Majitha block here today to create awareness about free legal-aid services. DLSA members Baldev Singh, Bal Krishan Bhagat and Simranpreet Kaur educated village residents about the various services provided by it.

The residents were also encouraged to use the services of monthly lok adalats and permanent lok adalats to save their time and money in litigation. The residents were made aware of the procedure to file cases with the permanent lok adalats.DLSA member Baldev Singh said people could also use the toll-free number, 1968, to get legal help. He said the society provided free legal aid to people with a family income of less than Rs 1.5 lakh per annum.

The residents were also educated about foemale feticide, domestic violence laws, MGNREGA, child and women rights.Bal Krishan Bhagat said complaints regarding electricity, water supply, LPG gas supply, banking, insurance, postal, hospital, transport and other public services, either public or private, could be filed with permanent lok adalats. He said the applicants did not require to pay any court fee or hire a lawyer to contest on their behalf.
